The Future of the Toaster

Imagine 20 years from now what it will be like to toast a bagel or piece of toast? Well a Chicago- based Design Company called Inventables are the creators of this "Transparent Toaster." It allows the customer to watch the bread or bagel being toasted so that you can get it out in time before it starts to burn! As of right now the transparent heating glass is not hot enough to toast the bread, which for safety reasons that might be a good thing to avoid people from being burnt! We will have to wait and see what happens in the Future!

  1. Wow an interesting use of technology, I never thought of before. I'm still saving up for a Battlestar Galactica Cylon Toaster (http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/16/battlestar-galactica-cylon-toaster-produces-fanboy-approved-brea/) :-) I wonder if this will become a standard for toasters in the future or simple a niche product with a high cool factor. I wonder if they will find away to have glass conduct heat quicker and with better electrical efficiency. The site also shows The Origami DVD Player (http://corporate.inventables.com/Product/ConceptStudio.asp?i=1&t=9) an interesting twist on a portable DVD player and great use of e-paper. Technology like this "sparks" the imagination and gets the creative juices flowing. It will be intriguing to see how society reacts to new innovative ways of integrating technology in to everyday appliances/gadgets.

  2. I have had my toaster for 8 years and I wouldn't replace it unless it broke. I think some companies make appliance puposefully junky nowadays so you have to by a new one. This toaster is very modern, contempory design and with some extra designing could be a work of art. I would definatly buy a new toaster if it added art to my kitchen.

  3. Looks like they chose form over function in this little invention. But I would love having one of these (once they finally get it toasting) so I can toast my bread every morning before class or work. My toaster now pops before it should leaving me to put it in again, only risking the chance of burning the bread (this is a no-no). But to be able to watch the chemical change to the exact point of preference would be awesome. Hopefully, they figure out a way to get it working soon, cause it would also look nifty on my counter top.

  4. This is very odd, the future of the toasters! its very interesting how you can watch your bagel or bread and taost the way you want it, not too dark or not to light. it would be nice if they discover a toaster that is the same but you can actually pick the bread out with your hands and the heat wouldnt affect your hands.
